1. Open Culture: Not a large a selection, but high quality texts. If you just want to skim a book to brush up on a course you took in ninth grade, download one of these. I have yet to be disappointed.
2. Book Boon: Provides free college-level textbooks in a PDF format. Probably the widest range of subjects on the web. The site is also pretty.
3. Flat World Knowledge: The worlds largest publisher of free and open college textbooks. Humanitie texts are particularly difficult to come by, this site has a great selection in all disciplines.
4. Textbook Revolution: Some of the books are PDF files, others are viewable online as e-books, or some are simply web sites containing course or multimedia content.
5. Library Pirate:I’ve always had an addiction to torrent based pirating. When this site opened a few months ago, I went a little overboard. After dropping two hundred on a paperback spanish textbook, I downloaded the ebook version illegally. I also got a great Psyc text i’m obsessed with. It will be interesting to see how this site grows- they already have a great selection.
College bookstores completely rip off their students, so ALWAYS reblog free textbooks!
"Leaving is not enough. You must stay gone. Train your heart like a dog. Change the locks even on the house he’s never visited. You lucky, lucky girl. You have an apartment just your size. A bathtub full of tea. A heart the size of Arizona, but not nearly so arid. Don’t wish away your cracked past, your crooked toes, your problems are papier mache puppets you made or bought because the vendor at the market was so compelling you just had to have them. You had to have him. And you did. And now you pull down the bridge between your houses, you make him call before he visits, you take a lover for granted, you take a lover who looks at you like maybe you are magic. Make the first bottle you consume in this place a relic. Place it on whatever altar you fashion with a knife and five cranberries. Don’t lose too much weight. Stupid girls are always trying to disappear as revenge. And you are not stupid. You loved a man with more hands than a parade of beggars, and here you stand. Heart like a four-poster bed. Heart like a canvas. Heart leaking something so strong they can smell it in the street."
Anonymous: Why is it considered to be disrespectful to smoke in front of a Hindu god tapestry? I saw a picture of a blonde girl smoking weed in front of Ganesh and someone commented under it how disrespectful that waS?????
It is disrespectful because it is a deed that Hinduism as a whole frowns upon. There is somewhat of a fashion going around linking narcotics to our Hindu Gods, and I agree that it is quite ignorant. Nowhere in current dharma does it permit devotees to consume alcohol, drugs or meat. You will find no temple where those things are practiced. You will find no true Hindu who participates in those things.
Narcotics and substances that inhibit the mind are just the opposite of what Sanatana Dharma teaches. The point of our dharma is to clear the mind, cleanse the body, purify the thoughts and see through the veil of ownership and individuality. If one reaches those sorts of thoughts under the influence of a substance, consider the realization not reached at all. Altering substances destroy the body, damaging the lungs, liver, brain and ability to think straight. They arise addiction, dependency and leave persons in a state where they disregard health and hygiene.
Such is adharmic (against dharma).
I hope I’ve helped!
Jai Shiv Shankar!

here’s why what you’re doing directly disrespects my religion
